Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Garden

What a great way to start the New Year!  On the first day of 2013, my family and I went to the Los Angeles Zoo.  We love this zoo!  The park is open daily from 10am - 5pm, and for me, it is just the right amount of time to spend an afternoon at the zoo and really enjoying myself with my family.
We have been to the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park San Diego so many times and we love it there.  Both parks are so huge that even if we try to see most of the shows and exhibits in both parks, we still miss probably about 1/3 of both parks.  At the Los Angeles Zoo, we were able to see all the exhibits and shows and still have time to go to a couple of other places while in L.A.

We love going to the zoo because it's very educational and rewarding to learn about the animals and it's environment.  My kids like to see different kinds of animals and my son loves to walk around and see all of his favorite animals from the elephants, to the giraffes, the monkey and to the zebras.
The L.A. Zoo has a new exhibit called LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles), that  houses over 60 species from around the globe.  There are six visually stunning exhibit areas in the LAIR that include habitats for various unique and endangered amphibian, invertebrate and reptilian species.  We saw species like the Fiji Island iguana, California king snake, desert hairy scorpion, and poison dart frog to name a few.

Because the L.A. Zoo is also a Botanical Garden, there are lots of beautiful plants, shady trees, flora and fauna every where you go.  The garden is so full and lush it makes a great shade and keeps those paths along the way cooler, even during the summer time.

There are lots of exhibits to explore and the way the park is designed, it's so easy to walk around and see the animals up close.  We were so lucky during our visit because almost all the animals were out and about, and we were able to see them in their habitats.  The park is also well maintained and well staffed with people willing to answer questions.
On our way out to the parking lot, my husband was looking for our car keys, and we didn't realize that it was missing.  We panicked!  We went to the security office, told them what happened, and the lady officer asked me to describe my lost car keys.  I did and by God's miracle, someone found our car keys and turned it in.  We were so relived and very thankful!
